My name is Nick Huff, I’m 16 class of 2024 I go to Monsignor Donovan Catholic HS and I’m in love with basketball. I started playing basketball when I was in 8th grade, would’ve been sooner but unfortunately I didn’t make the team in 7th grade. After that disappointment I worked and worked. Going out in the yard doing dribbling drills and shoot from sun up to sun down. That whole year I had the same mindset and it never changed. When my 8th grade year came around that’s when things started to look good. I played football that year and got stronger and faster than I had ever been and the physical aspect from football carried on to basketball that same year. I made the team and it was the best feeling ever knowing that I would be apart of something great. That year we dominated and everyone in my city was talking about us. Like most of our games in middle were more packed than the high school games. But moving on, we made it to the championship but lost, it hurt a lot cause I feel like I could’ve did better but… you win some you lose some so I learned from that and just held my head up. Now I’m am a Junior in high school. I recently transferred from Oglethorpe Co HS to Monsignor Donovan Catholic HS. The reason I chose to change is because I wanted to be apart of a more involve community and it just felt like home. I was always there training and getting better and it just seemed like the perfect fit for me. I can also be the leader and teammate that I wanna be a hold my teammates accountable and myself accountable for the things I do and say and I really never got to be that person in OC who could say something and be heard, but at Donovan it’s more like a brotherhood instead of just a team. Since being at Monsignor Donovan my skills have improved. I’m getting better education and I just feel like I’m at home.
