My name is Joseph Abreu, and I was born and raised on the small island of Kaua‘i. Surrounded by mountains, ocean, and a close-knit community, I learned early on the value of hard work, humility, and heart. My love for football began on the red dirt fields of Kaua‘i, where I first laced up my cleats and started to dream big.
I began playing football at a young age, and by high school, I had earned a spot on the Kaua‘i High School varsity team. It was there that my passion for the game deepened. Every practice, game, and challenge taught me more about discipline and perseverance. Football became more than just a sport, it became a way of life and helped shape the person I am today.
The summer after my sophomore year was a turning point. I was given the opportunity to attend Saint Louis High School, a school known for its excellence both academically and athletically. Being recruited was an incredible honor, but it wasn’t easy leaving home. I had to step away from everything familiar, my family, friends, and the island I love, to pursue a dream. Still, I knew it was a step I needed to take in order to grow.
Today, I am a proud student-athlete at Saint Louis. I play on the varsity football team, surrounded by some of the top talent in the state. The competition is intense, but it pushes me to become better every day. One of the greatest highlights of my journey at Saint Louis has been being part of the team that won the state championship, an experience I’ll never forget.
I’ve dedicated myself fully, putting in extra workouts outside of school practices, attending football camps and clinics, staying up late to study, and giving my all in everything I do. I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA, not because it’s easy, but because I believe that who I am off the field matters just as much as what I do on it.
I’ve been fortunate to be recognized for my efforts. In the 2022–2023 season, I was awarded Best Offensive Player, and from 2022 to current, I’ve been honored as a Student Athlete for maintaining my 4.0 GPA. These recognitions remind me that hard work and consistency truly pay off.
Balancing academics and football hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned to manage my time, stay focused, and keep my priorities in check. I’m an active member of the National Honor Society, and despite my demanding football schedule, I make time to give back by tutoring other students weekly. It’s important to me that I contribute to the school community that has supported me.
Outside of school, I am also an active member of the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii, where I’ve gained valuable leadership skills and learned the importance of mentorship. This organization has played a big role in helping me grow as both a student and a leader.
I know that I represent more than just myself. I represent my family, my hometown, and every young kid from Kaua‘i with a dream. This journey has taught me that success isn’t just about wins or grades, it’s about consistency, character, and staying true to who you are. No matter where life takes me, I will always carry Kaua‘i with me—in my heart, in my hustle, and in every step forward.
