My Story
Sports have always been a culture that I’ve learned to love. I was always competitive ever since I was young and sports is that in its literal sense. My dad played football in high school and my mom played sports such as volleyball and basketball. While at first I had a passion for football, one simple game of pickup when I was 12 made me love basketball, and my feelings toward the game only grew. I became fascinated in hoop culture and took in nearly all forms of it. I played basketball, watched the NBA, I played video games, and consumed all forms of media related to ball. Basketball was also pushed for me at school, as I was pushed to Varsity as a Freshman. I had many mishaps and mistakes that season and at the time I didn’t know how to handle them, which made me question if the opportunity was really deserved. However, through some amazing teammates, I pushed through and finished the year strong. We made the playoffs and I had a pleasant surprise at school. Shortly after our run, I managed to make first team all district. Next season, we moved to Killeen, and while I was moved to JV, the competition grew. I got a chance to play bigger schools which helped me grow as a player. Not only that, but I had great coaches in my ear, constantly pushing me to be the best possible every day. Now, I have moved back to Port Arthur and I came back to my old school, Sabine Pass, where I am still at to this day. Coaches would constantly praise my coachability, discipline and character. I always try to learn from losses and be humble in success. I also look to learn from inspiring players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jimmy Butler, who found success despite where they started. My goal is to first get to college, and to one day make the NBA so that I can provide for my family and give back to my community.
