"My name is Nasir. I grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, where shootings and sirens were a common occurrence throughout my childhood. Despite the constant chaos, I found solace in going to the park and playing basketball. However, my mother always worried about my safety and discouraged me from going there.
As a skinny kid, I faced bullying from elementary school until 7th grade. To fit in, I made some poor choices that landed me in trouble during middle school. It was during this time that my mother sat me down and had a heartfelt conversation with me. She emphasized the importance of staying true to myself and not trying to conform to others' expectations.
Motivated by her words, I dedicated the entire summer before 8th grade to working out and gaining weight. My goal was to join the football team, and I wanted to be physically prepared. When I returned to school, I was bigger and stronger than most of my peers, and people started to fear me, including those who used to bully me. However, I remained humble and grounded, never seeking revenge.
In my freshman year of high school, I finally had the opportunity to play football. I joined as a defensive tackle and had an incredible season. I even had the chance to play on the varsity team. Currently, I am starting at Right Guard and performing exceptionally well. I am also involved in track and field.
Overall, my journey has been one of growth and resilience. Despite the challenges I faced, I have managed to find my passion and excel in it, all while staying true to who I am."
