My name is Jonathan Yang. I am roughly about 5’8 and weigh about 145 lbs. I am left-handed and my favorite position to play is the opposite hitter. I played volleyball and have fallen in love with it since the age of 6. The first time I ever joined a team was during my 7th grade year at Norwood Junior High School. During that time, I played as the opposite hitter. The year after that (my 8th grade year), I’ve played as the setter because no one on my team could or efficiently set. As the season flew by, we won all of our games except one. We learned from our mistakes and used it as our fuel and energy to become better. So we fought our way to the top and qualified to the championship game against the team that beat us, Rio Linda Preparatory Academy. We did not forget our defeat against them and fought our way to victory, winning our very first championship game and bringing home the trophy. As my high school year starts, I was excited to go against strong high school teams and tried out for the volleyball team at Rio Linda High School. I made the JV team and was very happy to play as the opposite hitter once again. Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit the US causing our school to go under quarantine and cancelling our season. Everyone was sad and sorrowful. But all we could do was stay home and practice with whatever we had. Sophomore year (2020-2021), schools started to slowly open up again, including Rio Linda. But I chose to stay on distance learning for safety. We still had volleyball tryouts, so I tried out and made the team. Sadly, much of our players could not play that year because of COVID-19, leaving me by myself with no team to play with. Now I’m in my junior year, hoping to have a season.
