My name is Max Cantrell, a 5’10”, 180-pound linebacker from Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida, class of 2027. Football has been my passion since I was six years old, starting in Pop Warner in San Diego, California, where I played under Coach Scott Longerbone during my freshman year. Now, as a junior, I’ve earned varsity experience at Lake Gibson, where I’ve developed into a relentless and instinctive player, known for playing with my “hair on fire,” as noted by Prep Redzone. I’m a student of the game, constantly refining my skills with an individual linebacker coach and competing at elite camps like FAU, UNC, USF, and Keiser, where I’ve showcased my speed (4.9 40-yard dash) and football IQ against top talent.
On the field, I pride myself on my toughness and versatility. Despite my size, I never back down from a challenge—I mix it up with older players and bring a fiery intensity to every play. Whether I’m stopping the run or dropping into coverage, I play with heart and a relentless motor, earning respect from coaches and teammates alike. Off the field, I’m a leader who values discipline and teamwork, traits instilled by my parents, both recently retired Navy veterans. Their service taught me the importance of perseverance, structure, and giving my all, whether in football or life.
Academically, I’m just as driven. I maintain a 3.4 GPA while taking on a rigorous course load, including six AP classes, because I know being a student-athlete means excelling in both arenas. I’m aiming for a college program where I can grow as a linebacker and pursue a degree that sets me up for a future beyond football—potentially in a field like sports management, inspired by my love for athletics and entertainment, including my interest in marketing.
What sets me apart is my journey. Moving from San Diego to Lakeland gave me a diverse perspective and the ability to adapt to new challenges. I’ve played at every level—Pop Warner, JV, and varsity—consistently proving I can compete with the best. At camps, I’ve connected with coaches and shown I’m coachable, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to a program’s success. Prep Redzone highlighted my instincts and toughness, noting that I’ll “earn reps sooner rather than later,” and I’m ready to prove that.
