This is My Story
My name is Chase Robinson and I reside in
Queensvillage, New York. I am currently
a senior at Archbishop Molloy High School located at 83-53 Manton Street, Briarwood, New York. To date, my GPA is 3.8 and I am well on my
way to graduate in June 2022. I am currently a point guard on the varsity basketball player at Archbishop
Molloy High School. I have been playing the sport since I was 10 years
old and absolutely love the game. I also currently play with Rising Stars
Organization (AAU) and various other basketball teams.
Life’s
journey has been a long and tough one for me.
My mother was diagnosed with colon cancer and a few months later with
breast cancer. So, you can imagine my
emotions; I was sad, frustrated and worried.
How could my mother, a woman full of life, energy, strength and poise be
diagnosed with this dreadful disease. Cancer does not discriminate; it can
affect anyone. During this season of my life my world seemed to be turned
upside down. But through her pain I
watched my mother stand tall, filled with strength and faith. She would often
say in the midst of her illness, “Life can present you with some wins and
some losses but how you deal with it determines your outcome” and “somehow we
are going to get through this, it’s a win, win”. I am reminded of a quote I read and it so
reminded me of her, “She believed she could so she did”, she completed her
challenges of chemotherapy and radiation.
She believed and so she did.
Soon after another circumstance of life
hit Covid 19 and it did not just hit our family but everyone around us, it
affected those in New York and those abroad.
Death was on the rise and life as we once knew had changed drastically. Wearing masks, washing our hands thoroughly,
hybrid and remote learning had become the new normal.
Through all the chaos of the world and
dealing with a pandemic that seems like it’s never going to end, my mother
suffering a brain tumor during the pandemic, her cancer diagnosis, how do you
overcome life challenges especially the difficult ones?
I have learned through her and the
circumstances that engulfed me to remain positive; disregard all of the
negative things you may see, hear or think and challenge your energy into
something more positive, believe in one’s self, have unimaginable faith, be
thankful for your struggles which is often hard to do, but through your struggles
you learn your strength and when you reach that crossroad in life and you just
don’t know how to get through it, navigate through it and continue on the path,
keep moving forward and never give up. That
is my goal when I attend your college/university, navigate, push, grow and strive
for the best education not allowing nothing or anyone to deter me as I continue
on the path. Like the game of basketball, I will make my next move my best
move. “I believe I Can and I Will”.
