About Me

I started playing volleyball the summer before 7th grade when I was 12 by attending camps at Colorado State University, the University of Northern Colorado, and NORCO Volleyball Club to get ready for middle school volleyball tryouts . I made the team and started at libero. We had a lot of fun and did well. My middle school team went 20-3 over 2 years finishing 1st and 3rd out of 10 in our Poudre School District League.  As a freshman at Fort Collins High School I made the junior varsity team when most freshman made the C or D teams. I was pulled up to varsity halfway through the season and played jv and varsity. I was one of two freshman to earn a varsity letter and traveled with the varsity to the Colorado 5A State Championships. We had a great season, finishing 22-5 and tied for 5th in 5A state after going 1-1 as 9th seed of 12 at State. We were ranked between 6th - 12th during the season.  We won the Front Range Conference (11 teams) and 5A Region 9 to qualify for 5A State as 1 of 12 teams. As  a sophomore I was one of 3 sophomores to letter and again played both junior varsity and varsity. We  went 22-4, were ranked between 3rd - 6th all season, took 2nd in the Front Range Conference, but had an off day
at Region 6 finishing 3rd and missing 5A state (top 12)
.
The coaches gave me the Lamb Fam Award at our end-of-the-season banquet as the player who best represented the heart and soul of the FCHS volleyball program.  I earned my 3rd letter as a  6' 0" junior year playing  OH, RS, DS, and Libero. I started on our 2019 volleyball team team that went 26-3, placed 3rd at 5A State, won Region 7, was Front Range Conference Runners Up and I earned
1st Team Academic All State.
I usually attend 2-3 volleyball camps every summer with my team and play in a summer league, but they all got cancelled this summer. We won the Univ. of Denver Team Camp in 2019 and the Univ. of Wyoming Team Camp in 2018.  I was working out with my high school volleyball team at a local park a couple mornings a week in July and then we were allowed in the gym, but the school district shut down all fall high school practices due to an increase in COVID cases. Without practicing as a team, we got back together went 8-1 and to win the 30-team NORCO  VBC Team Camp 8/4/20. Our fall 2020 season was postponed until the spring of 2021 (CHSAA season C). We’re currently 7-4 and ranked 15th in the 5A RPI. I’m starting at OH and play every point. I've been on some good teams and some bad ones, and I've never been the best player on any of those teams, but I  contribute a lot. As I've gotten better, I want to play at the collegiate level. I also played 3 years of club VB (NORCO for 2 and YOSA for 1) but stopped to focus on track and field in the spring. I qualified for 5A State Track and Field in 3 events as a sophomore and placed in two- 6th high jump and 3rd 4x400 relay. I've gotten only 3 Bs in high school while taking the toughest classes FCHS offers. I work hard and do what my teachers and coaches (and parents) ask. I'm not a big talker. The world is loud enough as it is. I let my actions be my example. I hope to attend a small, selective division 1 college, or a division 3 college with a competitive volleyball or track and field program where I can push myself academically to become a physician assistant and athletically to become an all-conference or all-American athlete. I'm caring, kind and open-minded. Thank you for considering me to be a part of your team. Sincerely, Riley J. Dodd
